    Going Backstage with BroadwayGPS

BroadwayGPS goes well beyond just offering great rates for student groups visiting the theatre.

With decades of experience, they’re able to handle all the details, from which shows you should see to add-ons, last-minute changes and more. They also have a workshop partner, Broadway Up Close, which connects students to actual Broadway professionals for classes, tours, and exclusive behind-the-scenes experiences.

Read all about their unique offerings below!

How would you explain what BroadwayGPS does?

At BroadwayGPS, we sell group tickets to all shows on and off Broadway. We believe it’s the TOTAL experience that matters. The buying experience should be just as enjoyable as the show the group attends.

BroadwayGPS does what box offices aren’t set up to do—walk and talk buyers through the process of ordering group tickets! Every group is unique. Every show is unique. We help find the perfect match based on your specifics: content, age suitability and budget.

Why should student groups go through BroadwayGPS?

All group sales agencies get the same rates, so it’s about the customer service and the partnership we create with our clients. Our communication is very important to us! We’re fast on response, available by a quick phone call, and can handle any questions you may have in a timely manner. With so many moving parts on your trip to NYC, we’re there to put you at ease.

Our team has been in business for over 30 years, so we have forged excellent relationships with the Broadway community and the box offices that serve them. We also attend productions prior to opening, offering buyers informed recommendations. We’ll request extensions on payment due dates and help with any last minute add-ons a group may need. We sweat the details, so the group doesn’t have to. This gives our clients peace of mind.

Tell us all about Broadway Up Close workshops!

Broadway Up Close Workshops give students the rare opportunity to step inside the creative process of Broadway. Rather than simply watching a performance, participants work directly with current Broadway professionals—actors, musicians, stage managers, and designers—who share their craft and real-world experiences. These workshops are designed to show the human side of Broadway, offering an intimate, hands-on experience that connects students with the artists who bring the stage to life.

Through activities like learning choreography from a Broadway performer, singing with a musical director, exploring stage management cues, or participating in acting and improv exercises, students gain insight into the many skills and careers that make theatre possible. Each session also includes time for open conversation with the teaching artists, giving students the chance to ask questions about professional training, auditions, and life working in the industry.

When paired with seeing a Broadway show, the workshops deepen the entire theatergoing experience. Students arrive at the theatre with a greater understanding of how productions are built—from rehearsal rooms to backstage crews—and they leave the performance with a more informed appreciation of the work they’ve just witnessed. Instead of simply seeing Broadway, they experience how Broadway is made.

And what benefits do you think student groups see from participating in workshops like this?

With a hands-on approach in our Broadway Up Closer Workshops, we help students understand the collaboration, discipline, and creativity required to bring a show to life.

Students also gain valuable insight into the many career paths within the theatre industry. By interacting with performers, stage managers, designers, and other artists, they see that Broadway is not just about what happens on stage, but about a wide network of professionals working together behind the scenes. These conversations often inspire students to think about their own artistic goals and how they might pursue them.

Perhaps most importantly, the workshops build confidence and strengthen ensemble skills. Through group exercises, creative exploration, and open dialogue with professionals, students learn to collaborate, take risks, and support one another – skills that extend far beyond the stage. Many groups leave not only with new technical knowledge, but with a deeper appreciation for theatre and a stronger sense of connection to the art form.

NOTE: Broadway Up Close also offers exclusive walking tours and backstage tours! From Broadway Beginnings to Haunted Broadway to our special Hamiltour and more, we offer exciting interactive walking tour options that all different types of groups would enjoy. For those wanting something extra special, you can discover the secrets of Broadway’s oldest theater – The Hudson! This is a rare, one-of-a-kind experience to peek behind the curtain on Broadway.

Are there any new shows you’re excited for this year?

Broadway is an exciting place. With over 40 Broadway theatres (and much more off Broadway), there is a multitude of different live performances you can experience! Students can hit up the classics, like Disney’s long running classic THE LION KING, still dazzling audiences with their magnificent puppetry. Or they can revisit WICKED after it made a huge splash on our Hollywood screens. Discover the source show and experience these famous witches it in a whole new way. Or maybe you’d like to try something newer, like MAYBE HAPPY ENDING, the 2025 Tony-winning Best Musical about two incredibly endearing human-like robots from the future. It’s a heart-warming musical about connection, adventure and love. And I’d be remiss to not mention the new student favorite, THE OUTSIDERS! Based off a popular book read in school, students are immersed in 60’s Oklahoma with a group of ‘outsiders’ fighting for survival and purpose. A true coming of age story!
